Pre-fabricated inserts are available at our facility when pain relief cannot be achieved by "comfort" footwear alone. They can be a cost-effective form of treatment for mild problems, for example: to offload high-pressure areas, to provide additional cushioning or to enhance overall shoe fit and comfort. They can be dispensed with or without a prescription. We stock a variety of pre-fabricated devices that vary in their material make-up and length.
Direct Molded Inserts are fabricated after being molded directly to the foot by utilizing heat. This provides a better "fit with the foot" than pre-fabricated inserts, therefore increasing the potential for increased support and comfort. This type of insert might be used for less severe problems such as mild cases of plantar fasciitis, mild arch pain, shin splints and mild general foot discomfort.
Custom foot orthotics are fabricated in our on-site laboratory for adults and children. Foot orthotics are also known as custom arch supports or inserts. An orthotic is prescribed to support, align, prevent, correct or accommodate foot problems and/or deformities. The staff pedorthist is knowledgeable in foot anatomy, etiology of foot disease, biomechanics and material technology. As we specialize exclusively in the making of foot orthotics, we offer a full line of orthotics to meet specific individual needs. The shoe and orthosis are fitted as a unit to provide a more perfect union, resulting in a better functioning device. A pedorthist considers the shoe an extension of the orthotic that has the potential to enhance orthotic therapy. The orthotics are designed to accept adjustments. Adjustments are made at our office, in most cases, in a matter of minutes.
